Osteopathy is a system of healthcare that addresses the body holistically. It is a primary healthcare service in the UK, hence no referral is needed. It has been a successful complementary therapy since 1873, well practiced all over the world. One of Osteopathy’s core principles is ‘the rule of the artery is supreme’, which means if blood gets there the body heals, allowing homoeostasis to occur given the correct parameters.  Given the right stimulation of the bodies’ different systems (musculoskeletal, nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory) health can be restored without using medications or surgery. Through this process healing is vastly accelerated.

Classical Osteopathy is an approach which encompasses the whole body within a treatment, gently adjusting the body to a more relaxed, optimal functioning position. This is applied with the careful use of appropriate force. In Classical Osteopathy treating the whole means that constitutional illnesses can be approached as well as musculoskeletal problems.

Osteopathy doesn’t just treat back pain; it treats all sorts of conditions from digestive disorders to neck and shoulder ache, migraines to sports injuries, menstrual disorders and many more besides.  Treatments are gentle and relaxing and Alex follows them up with physical, mental or emotional advice and rehabilitative exercises as required.

The initial session lasts up to 90 minutes covering ones’ personal history, with examination, treatment, suggestions and exercises.

The treatment involves manual therapy working from head to toe, gently releasing the restrictions to movement whilst articulating joints, stretching ligaments and muscles, improving drainage and circulation. It is suitable for all ages from cradle to grave and is very gentle on the body.
